Delete your account
You can permanently delete your Monavio account and the data associated with it at any time. There are two ways to request account deletion.
Option 1 — In the app
This is the fastest route and works on any device where you're signed in (web, Android, iOS):
- Open Monavio and sign in to the account you want to delete
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to the Account section
- Tap Delete Account
- Confirm in the dialog — deletion is immediate and cannot be undone
Option 2 — By email
If you've lost access to your account or can't open the app, email support@monavio.app from the email address you registered with, and include:
- Your account email
- A short note stating you want to delete your Monavio account and all associated data
We verify ownership by requiring the request to come from the registered email, then process the deletion within 5 business days. You'll get a confirmation email once it's done.
What gets deleted
All of your personal data is deleted, including:
- Your account profile (email, name, profile photo)
- All financial data you entered or uploaded — accounts, transactions, budgets, goals, rules, recurring items, investments, net-worth assets and liabilities, FI plans
- Statements you uploaded (PDFs or CSVs) — note: these are already deleted from our storage within 24 hours of processing, as noted in our Privacy Policy
- Companion records and shared-expense data you created
- Encryption keys specific to your account
- Usage analytics linked to your user ID
What is retained, and why
A small amount of data is retained even after deletion, in line with our Privacy Policy (Section 5.4) and applicable law:
- Backups: Backups containing your data are purged within 30 days of your deletion request. Until that purge, your data is unreachable through the app and API but may briefly persist in encrypted, offline backup storage.
- Payment records: If you ever had a paid subscription, transaction receipts are held by our payment processor Paddle (Merchant of Record) for up to 7 years to meet tax and financial-reporting obligations. We do not keep copies of card details.
- Anonymized aggregates: Usage metrics that cannot be linked back to you may be retained indefinitely for product analytics (e.g., "X% of users set up a budget in their first week").
Subscription cancellation
If you have an active paid subscription, deleting your account also cancels that subscription. You will not be charged again. If you'd like a refund for a recent charge, see our Refund Policy — the 30-day money-back guarantee still applies.
Can I recover my data after deletion?
No. Deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. If you want to keep your data but stop using the app, you can instead export your data (Settings › Export Data) and cancel your subscription without deleting the account — you'll keep read-only access to everything.
